Blackberry Inn Lodging in Mendocino, Calif.

History

In 1980, award winning architect Paul Tay, and his wife Ruth, interior decorator, acquired the old Valentine's Lodge, a 1950's style motel, and were immediately challenged on how to work within the restraints of the Coastal Commission requirements.

Faced with buildings in the shape of a rectangle, imagination was the order of the day. Ruth's favorite movie, "Support Your Local Sheriff" just happened to be on TV and lightbulbs over their heads began flashing. Before you knew it, there was the Bank, on the left in the picture below, and they were off and running.

Now you can enjoy the atmosphere of an Old West Town upgraded to appear like a Hollywood Western Movie set.
