Comments and Review on The Blackberry Inn

Loved it! May 2014

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 5 out of 5 stars

We arrived for a weekend and found this inn very accommodating for our 83 lb lab. She even got dog treats with her stay. On the people side of it. The place was very clean. Nice landscaping and a welcome basket with goodies. When we arrived they even gave us complementary bottle of wine. Staff is very nice and accommodating. We will be back again. Recommendation: Make reservations in advance as there is only 3 rooms for dogs

Very Nice and Spacious Property April 2014

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Our family spent Easter weekend in this quiet place. Very nicely landscaped , cozy cottages with ocean view in beautiful Mendocino forest. As soon as we got there we had our complementary bottle of champagne and wine. Although they don't serve breakfast , but you get baked goodies , coffee, tea and fruits every morning . Easter morning we had little basket of chocolates . Beds were very comfortable and linens /towels were very clean. Location is excellent, quiet and close to city. We loved the place!

Consistently Wonderful April 2014

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My husband and I have stayed at this motel numerous times in the past several years. It is always a wonderful stay. To start our visit, the staff is always so friendly and helpful when making reservations on the phone. When we arrive their smiling faces greet us, the fruit basket in the office, the goodie basket and wine in our room are also welcoming. The rooms are clean, and beds comfortable. The inn is conveniently located too, just right outside the village. The inn is older, but well kept, and super quaint and cozy. This is always the first place we consider when planning our trips to the coast, it is a fantastic value! Melissa and Jonna are super representatives of what inn keepers should be!!!

“Amazing Stay” Reviewed August 23, 2013

We were not expected to turn the corner and find the cutest little village hidden away. We stayed in the boarding house and it was perfect! Everything was so elegant and well kept. We had cookies upon arrival, milk in the fridge and some toiletries. We drove along the south coast each day so the location was good- bit far to walk into tour but such a lovely stay!!

“A true break from the routine of the coast” Reviewed August 15, 2013

No place is "perfect", but the Blackberry Inn comes close. This "Western styled" community of rooms Ala facades, e.g., The Bank, Saloon, Millinery, Sheriff, etc., is a joy to call "home away from home" while enjoying the local community of Mendocino Village, walking distance across the coastal highway 1.
The accommodations were clean and well appointed, our room had a view of the Pacific, a deep oval tub and a real wood fireplace! The bed was comfortable and we awoke refreshed. Homemade cookies and muffins and fresh coffee made this a spot to return to.

“A Wonderful Unique Experience” Reviewed March 22, 2013

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 5 of 5 stars

A long overdue review - we stayed at the Blackberry Inn for the first time a couple of years ago, and it was a charming experience the first time we walked through the door (we reserved the "Livery" room). What really set this place apart for us was the fact that about half of the rooms have a wood-burning fireplace or stove. Where else can you rent a nicely appointed room, have a peaceful view out towards the ocean (not quite ocean-front views, but still very nice), and cozy up to a nice warm fire?

Actually, I take that back - what really sets this place apart for us are the caretakers; Lou and Melissa. During our first trip, our room actually an issue with the stovepipe not drawing correctly, and our room got smokey. We let Lou and Melissa know, and they immediately sincerely apologized, and moved us to a new room. Not just any new room though - they offered Belle's Place which is one of their top-rooms. In the end, we wound up moving into the General Merchandise room - a great one in of itself, and the fireplace worked flawlessly - but we were really blown away by the wonderful gesture of Lou and Melissa. These folks really care about the customers who stay there. While switching rooms for customers is not uncommon for hotels when there's an issue - to offer the top-rate room is really going out of their way for the customer.

Fast forward two years from that visit, and my wife and I visited again. Again, we were so looking forward to a peaceful getaway in Mendocino, and thought of cozying up to a warm fire on a rainy Nor Cal weekend. It was great to find Lou and Melissa still there, and they actually remembered us from the last time we were there. The stay this time around was just as wonderful as the last time. The room was clean, cozy and comfortable; we had plenty of wood to enjoy in the fireplace, we had a back "patio" this time around and enjoyed the morning sun out there while having our coffee's (and enjoying their goodies basket).

In a nutshell, it's a great homey-feeling place to stay. While not in downtown Mendocino, it's right across US-1 from town. Rooms are large, clean and comfortable. Rooms with fireplaces are awesome! And it's run by staff who really care about their customers and really go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. We'll be back for sure.

“Always Good” Reviewed March 5, 2013

My husband and I have stayed here at least 3 separate times in the past few years. It is an older establishment, but well kept. It is always clean, and everything is always in working order. The staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable, and they have rooms for all budgets. The decor is a bit eclectic, but charming...kinda like grandmas house, comfortable. The goodie basket is always a welcome addition for the evening or breakfast. Every room has a mini fridge, microwave, and small coffee pot. It isn't in town, but is very close, just a couple of minutes drive to town. Belles place is our favorite room, but this time we stayed in the School house which was still very accommodating. We will definitely consider this inn any time we visit the area.

“Charming!” Reviewed October 6, 2012

We arrived and were upgraded from the Saloon to Margerite's Millinery. This was a large king room with a fireplace, patio and jacuzzi tub. The fireplace was all set up and when we lit it, the fire burned perfectly for a long while. There is a view of the ocean from the tub and from from the bedroom which has two comfy sitting chairs. The staff is friendly and helpful about what to do and see in the area. The location is a bit away from the town, but any easy enough drive or walk. We liked the Blackberry Inn and the Mendocino coast so much that we opted for an additional night. We would stay again.

“Little Jewel” Reviewed September 16, 2012

We stumbled on to Blackberry Inn and it was wonderful. The people at the desk were friendly and responsive. They gave us a cute little basket with yummy cookies and muffins and even a bottle of wine which we had for dinner. The room was cozy and clean. It had a hairdryer and other welcome bathroom items. It was the best buy of our visit up the coast of Calif and Oregon.

Pampering, with Spa Quality Amenities…

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 5 of 5 stars

We feel so pampered each time we stay at The Blackberry Inn. The first thing noticed is the attention to detail. Fresh cut flowers, fluffy, bright white towels, spa quality soaps and lotions, and art adorning the walls. The beds are extremely comfortable and cozy. Watching the fire while we drift off to sleep with the calming sound of the ocean is priceless. In the morning, the yummy basket of goodies sitting on our table is quite welcomed, as is the coffee brewing in our pot.

The large, oval bathtub is very inviting after a day on the beach and walking through the redwood forests. We have our favorite room, however the wonderful managers, are always thrilled and proud to show all the other rooms when they are unoccupied.

The gardens and architecture of The Blackberry Inn are truly unique. Thankfully, there is an outdoor sitting area in the midst of it all for quiet reflection, a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, or some peaceful reading. We look forward to our next visit.

Beautiful Countryside and Ocean from our Window…

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 5 of 5 stars

We were absolutely delighted with our stay at the Blackberry Inn. The room was large and well equipped. We looked out our large, back windows to see beautiful countryside and the ocean. The managers and owner were so welcoming and helpful; they were totally committed to making our stay the best it could be. The beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept on in a hotel or inn. The 'Old West' building facades were adorable and added to the experience and the homemade baked goods were heavenly. We highly recommend the Blackberry Inn.

Positive Reviews and Dog Friendly…

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 5 of 5 stars

We booked the Blackberry Inn for one night to celebrate our 45th anniversary. Our choice was based on the very positive reviews - and also because they have rooms designated as dog friendly. As soon as we checked in, we really liked the place - and they had provided us with a bottle of wine to celebrate, as we had requested. So we immediately asked for a second night, which they gladly arranged - with a second bottle of wine! The room was immaculate; all the amenities were provided, including chocolate kisses on the pillows!

A Romantic Sanctuary…

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blackberry Inn is where my boyfriend and I took refuge before and after camping at the three day Sierra Nevada World Music Festival nearby. The Innkeeper is very warm and hospitable. It truly is a romantic sanctuary.

Ocean View from the Bathtub…

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 5 of 5 stars

We came up to Mendocino for a romantic getaway. We cannot be more pleased with our stay at the Blackberry Inn. We stayed in the Sheriff’s room and it was fabulous. We had a beautiful ocean view from our bathtub, sliding doors and a great fire burning in the fireplace.

Very Cute and Good Value…

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Blackberry Inn is very cute and a good value. The complex is set up as an old Western town. When the fog lifted we even had a view of the ocean! My friend went for an early morning walk and saw wild turkeys and a small herd of deer.

Helpful and Willing Staff…

TripAdvisor traveler rating: 5 of 5 stars

We stayed in the honeymoon suite, Belle's Place. I was a little afraid that the theme would cross the line into tacky/cheesy, but was pleasantly surprised when we checked in. I really appreciated their willingness to help when we woke up the next day with a flat tire. Not only did they allow us to use their phone, but they let us back into our room after check out to wait for the tow truck. They made what could have been an awful morning into a minor inconvenience. The staff was great, the hotel is clean and quiet, the grounds are beautiful, and the price can't be beat in that area. I highly recommend staying here.
